During your initial consultation with Dr. Letourneau, you will discuss your options regarding the size, shape, type, and placement site of the implant.
Size refers to the width and volume of the implant as well as how far the implant will protrude.
There are two options for the shape of the implant: anatomical or round. The volume of an anatomical implant is concentrated at the bottom of the implant, which allows it to mimic the movement and shape of a natural breast. The volume of a round implant is equal all around.

The implant will be placed submascular—under the layer of muscle tissue in the chest wall—or subglandular—on top of the chest muscle, but below the breast tissue. An advantage of the submascular breast implant placement is that it does not interfere with mammograms. An advantage of the subglandular breast implant procedure is that it results in less post-operative pain.
The procedure typically takes one to two hours. You will be under general anesthesia for the duration of the procedure. Dr. Letourneau will make an incision in one of four places:
Based on your preferences, the implant will be inserted into a pocket above or below the chest muscle and filled with either silicone or saline. Dr. Letourneau will then close the incision with a suture or surgical tape and cover the area with gauze. It is important to wear a surgical bra during your recovery while the implants settle into their position.
